The Town of Monroe and Interstate Waste Services work closely to ensure the residents of the Town and Villages have a safe, sustainable, and clean community.


Residential Refuse Pickup

Village Residents:
Monday & Thursday

Town Residents:
Tuesday & Friday

*Limit of (2) cans per pickup*

There will be no Refuse/Recycling pickup on the following holidays. When a holiday falls on a pickup day, the entire weekly schedule will shift one day

Interstate Waste Services 2024 Holiday Calendar

New Year’s Day: Monday, January 1st

Memorial Day: Monday, May 27th

Independence Day: Thursday July 4th

Labor Day: Monday, September 2nd

Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 28th

Christmas Day: Wednesday, December 25th


2024 REFUSE GUIDELINES

  • Limit of (2) 35-gallon cans per pickup (or the equivalent thereof.)
  • No more than 70 gallon per pickup.
  • Do not leave extra garbage or recycling waste next to receptacles. Plastic bags, cardboard boxes, etc. These will not be picked up if not placed in receptacles.
  • Please note- any garbage exceeding the guidelines will NOT be picked up.
  • All material must be placed out, at the curb, the night before your scheduled collection day, as collection can begin very early in the morning.
  • Receptacles to be picked up must place at the curb and not in the driveway.
  • Please do not have parked vehicles blocking your receptacles.
  • Do not place lawn/yard brush, dirt, construction/demolition materials out for pick-up. Interstate Waste Services does not pick-up this type of refuse.

 

Bulk Item Pickup

*Limit of One Item Per Week*
*Bulk Pickup begins the 1st Thursday in April and ends the last Friday in December*

Village Residents:
Thursday

Town Residents:
Friday

Unacceptable Items For Pickup:
Construction Debris, Tires, Grass, Brush & Leaves, Computers, Televisions, Batteries,
Lawn Mowers.

Residential Recycling Pickup

Paper & co-mingled can be placed in either the green recycle container provided by the town or a garbage can clearly labeled for recycling. Recycling Bins are available for pick up at the Town of Monroe Highway Department located at 87 Mine Road.

Recyclable items include but are not limited to

Tin & Aluminum Cans & Foil.
Plastic Containers & Cartons – remove caps & rinse.
Glass, bottles & jars – remove caps & rinse.
Mixed Papers – newspapers, magazines, cardboard, paper.

*Cardboard must be broken down & tied*

RECYCLING PLACED IN PLASTIC BAGS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP. PLASTC BAGS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

 Recycle Coach Now Available for the Monroe Community!

 


Recycle Coach is now available to the Town of Monroe, Village of Monroe, & Village of Harriman. You can access this through the widget above or by downloading the mobile app. This application can assist everyone in determining whether an item you wish to dispose is recyclable. You can also view your refuse schedule, schedule changes, report missed pickups, view refuse/recycling events taking place in your area, and much more! Check it out and see how easy it is to use! 


Compost Facilities

Interstate Waste Services no longer accepts yard waste. The Town of Monroe offers Compost Facilities for residents to drop off yard waste. The Highway Department will be accepting yard waste at the Compost drop off from 7:00 –4:00 Monday through Friday. This is located at the Highway Department, at 87 Mine Road.

Please sign in at the office prior to dropping off your brush / leaves. Brush must be tied, under 4 foot in length and no larger than 5 inches in diameter. No grass clippings, logs, or wood will be accepted. No plastic bags. Please be reminded that the Highway Department or the garbage company does not pick up brush / leaves. Residents are strongly encouraged to use this.  The Lakes Road Compost Facility operates seasonally and hours are communicated accordingly.
